the worst thing about weddings (bridal hindsight #8)

My wedding is officially over! Done.. kaput... finito.

This weekend I rested an exhausted and somewhat funky tasting tongue as I put the last thank you card in the post.

With all honesty I can tell you that Thank you cards are the grey cloud that hang over the beautiful blue wedding sky. It's not that I am ungrateful for the gifts and presents of my guests.. it's just that after the wonderful moment that is the wedding day sitting down to write 100 different thank you notes is a little.. well, boring.

With hindsight there are a few things that I could have done to make this job a little easier.

Write your thank you cards as soon as you get a gift.
People will send you cards, gifts before the wedding. By writing you thank you card as soon as the post arrives you are dealing with the thank yous in small lots rather than in bulk which makes the job a lot easier. You can still hold off posting them til after the wedding.

Plan ahead with your photographer
It's a very popular idea to either include a photo or create a digital thankyou using a photo from the wedding. Speak with your photographer about getting at least one photo straight away so you can start work on your thank yous.

Preprint your envelopes.
Assume that every guest is going to come bearing a gift. When you print your wedding invitations print a 2nd envelope for thank yous.

Just do it
Procrastination is the worst thing about writing invites. Set aside a day and time to sit down your fiance and write and sign your thank yous and stick to it. No X-box, no movies, no grocery shopping. Just get it done!
