One of the most important parts of creating memories on your wedding day is to have lots of pictures for your scrapbook to save every aspect of the event. Probably one of the most important choices you will make when planning your wedding is selecting a wedding photographer that has the right credentials and style of photography to suit your personal tastes. Fortunately, many photographers have their own website complete with a portfolio of their best work, as well as testimonials from satisfied couples. However, depending on what you are looking for out of your photos, there are a few different types of shots that you can look for to make sure your photographer is capable of the diversity required to make your wedding scrapbook as stunning as possible.

Candid Bride and Bridesmaid Shots

Some of the most fun and memorable photos are candid shots of the bride and bridesmaids preparing the morning of the ceremony; mainly because the bridesmaids will enjoy reminiscing with the bride! Classic wedding photos such as the bride’s shoes, bridal bouquet, and photos of your wedding dress hanging by itself in black and white are just a few of the pictures that anyone who has been married are familiar with. When browsing through a wedding photographer’s portfolio, make sure to pay attention to these shots because they are essentially the “meat and potatoes” of your scrapbook.

Sparkler Photographs

Taking photos of your guests playing with sparklers or of your sparkler sendoff line can make for some great memories, but the photos themselves are one of the hardest shots to pull off. Not only does your photographer need the proper equipment, but there is a certain skillset and precise camera settings required to capture sparklers properly. When photographing sparklers, the photographer has to ensure a “perfect storm” of variables are coming together at the same time. Make sure to take a peek at the quality of these shots if it’s something you’re interested in, because not every photographer can do it.

You May Kiss the Bride

Obviously, the most important photo will be the first kiss as husband and wife. Even more importantly, you only get one chance at this shot and there is truly no “do-over”. Though the photographer will be able to take between 3 and 10 photos during the duration of your kiss, it takes a very skilled photographer to capture a timeless shot of the very special moment. If a potential candidate for being your wedding photographer has even one lackluster kiss photo, I would consider looking for another choice to make sure you aren’t going to end up with buyer’s remorse.
