... You've been so focused on the ceremony, the dress, your bridesmaids, the food, the cake, the first dance, the invitations, that you almost forgot about how your guests will feel coming into town for your big day.

I was looking for something extra to offer my clients in my Marriage Readiness Training Course. Based on my many years as a counselor I discovered many people go into marriage without a clue about the legalities of marriage. When crucial decisions need to be made they end up paying a fortune in attorney's fees to settle estates, make health care decisions (We all remember the Terri Schiavo Story), and deal with numerous other matters. So I decided to find an expert in the area of family law…

Well, it's been quite the week! On Thursday I had planned to work on my Wedding Open House to-do list. I woke up and figured it's cold out so I'm not going to bother fussing too much with hair and makeup. I put on some comfy clothes, poured cereal and coffee and my brother calls. He's on his way to Ohio to do some things for his mother-in-law and to rescue her kitty (MIL is in nursing home temporarily-long story). So, being the nice sister I am, I ask if he would like me to ride along and keep…

I love the winter. My mother says that winter is the time of dead things. And I guess, in a way, she's right. But there is something about this dormant, somber season that speaks to me of possibilities. I can look at the trees and know that soon, they will be lively and green again, and the dogwoods will be sporting their lovely blooms, and the flowers will be opening to the…

This morning while surfing the web I came across a media release for a bridal show being held in Auburn, Indiana today. What makes this bridal show stand out to a wedding planner in Canada is that it's being held at the Auburn, Cord, Duesenberg Museum. Growing up I literally spent every Labor Day Weekend at that museum so it really holds a special place in my heart.…

Beyond your Bridal Party, there are several other people who you will want to thank for helping to make your day special. When discussing tipping, the general rule is that if you hire someone from a company then you tip but, if you hire the owner, then you are not obligated to tip that person. For delivery and security people, $5-$10 per person is customary; for hair and make-up services, 15-20% of the total bill is what should be tipped; the same tip of 15-20% of the bill is also tipped to…

Where yesterday's brides had no choice but to get married in a suit, today's brides have a vast array of choices. With that said, however, those choices aren't always the best way to go and you might be surprised by what is. When doing your research, try to keep in mind the following.....

Whoops, looks like junk mail! Someone one recently told me a story about throwing out a wedding invitation because she thought it was junk mail! Turns out the envelope was addressed by the bride on her computer. The computer address looked mass produced therefore she made a snap judgement and the invitation wound up in the trash along with the val-pack and the real estate solicitations.
As you can imagine, as a calligrapher, hearing this story that was music to my ears! I thought I…
